A quick rundown of our history, our purpose, and our vital statistics.
History
Back in October of 2000, Armage had been toying with the idea of expanding his site, Imperial Military Spaceworks, into a larger, more complex site, with news, stats, and as much other content as he could put out. He wanted it to be the best archive on the Web for SW-RPG content. Meanwhile, Moridin was having similar problems due to the impending release of the new d20 system. His site, the Star Wars RPG Database, was already a primary news and D6 stats source, and as the need for a dual-system website drew near, the importance of pleasing both sets of gamers while continuing to provide up-to-the-minute news began seeming like a daunting task.
The pair contacted each other and decided, since their sites were perfect complements to each other, that the best thing for everyone would be to combine them into one large, content-driven website, with daily news and comment to boot. Thus, SWRPGNetwork was born: a network of content that everyone would eventually be able to contribute to.
Since then, SWRPGNetwork has quickly grown to become the most-visited SW-RPG site on the Web. The site has surpassed 280,000 unique hits (1,600,000 total hits) in less than a year of operation, which is nothing short of astounding. In addition, the popular SW-RPG bulletin board, the SW-RPG HoloNet Discussion Forums, was brought under the aegis of SWRPGNetwork to serve as its official bulletin board.
In June 2002, we received the prestigious Award for Outstanding Excellence from Star Wars RPG Reviewed Sites, one of only a select few to do so. We have also been nominated twice for the 2002 D20 System Awards, also known as the "ENnies," a d20 roleplaying award presented by EN World -- the only SW-RPG site to have been so nominated.
Though SWRPGNetwork has had growing pains since its inception, it still strives to deliver SW-RPG news, content, and discussion that is accurate and useful -- and we owe it all to you, the members of the SW-RPG community. Thank you.
The Purpose
The purpose of SWRPGNetwork, as stated above, is quite simple. We aim to serve as the central content site for the entire community - a place where you can get material you're interested in for your campaigns, or suggest ideas for said material if it doesn't exist. We want to provide the best material we can that will help out all fellow roleplayers. We also want to provide accurate news on the community from both official and unofficial sources - thus giving you the "inside scoop" on the SW-RPG community.
The Statistics
SWRPGNetwork is a database-driven site. It runs off of a MySQL database with a custom-coded PHP front-end and control panel. Almost every item of text seen on the site is drawn from the database, allowing for easy updates and excellent interaction, while the site's look can be adjusted with ease. Response times remain low, and storage space stays high, making sure that visitors have a seamless experience.
